Below is the newsletter announcement that Tommy sent out yesterday.  If you are interested in receiving his regular updates (this blog is more about the trip and Scotland rather than "academic" topics), sign up here:

Ready for the big announcement about our Spring 2015 plans? We're going to be in Scotland for the semester, directing Baylor's study abroad program at the University of St. Andrews! St. Andrews is Scotland's oldest university (founded 6 centuries ago, in 1413), and the third oldest in the United Kingdom. The town of St. Andrews is also the home of golf, of course, with the famous Old Course, a regular host (indeed, the host in 2015) of the British Open championship.

We are taking a group of 10 Baylor students, who will take one class with me on 18th century topics including the Great Awakening, the Enlightenment, and the American Revolution, from both British and American perspectives. The rest of their classes will be through St. Andrews. We will be taking a number of day trips to various sites in Scotland (including Edinburgh, which is fairly close by), and will also have a multi-day visit to London at Spring Break.

I say 'we' because, of course, my wife and boys will be coming along too. I'm not interested in leaving them home for four months! This will be an educational bonanza for the boys, and we have realized that a side benefit of home schooling is the smooth transition they will have to schooling in St. Andrews - same school, just in a different location.

May I ask you to pray for us, that God will protect us as we go, and that He will help us to know Him better and grow stronger as a family during our time away, and that He will help us manage our family and work duties and needs during the semester? Thanks for your support! As you might imagine, I will be giving occasional updates about our travels through the newsletter.
