We've been looking for a good day to check out some of the Fife Coastal Path for hiking. Today was the day! After working at home most of the morning, we got our beer together and headed to the southern coast of Fife to Anstruther.
Once there, we tracked down the fish and chips place that those who have tried many recommended to us. We were not disappointed!
The "Wee Chippy" or "The Little French Fry" for us Americans, followed the pattern of incredible kids meals. The boys ordered the cheeseburger lunch. A man popped up from behind the counter, presumably after hearing our US accents, and said, "Our cheeseburgers are not like McDonalds". Of course to us, that is a plus! He went on to describe their burgers as having cheese in the middle and on top and deep fried. The boys thought these were terrific!
Tommy and I went with the fish and chips option with smoked fish. Wow, this was an amazing twist on the standard fish and chips.
After our delicious lunch, we started off for our hike to Pittenweem. It took a bit of searching to find where to pick up the Fife Coastal Path, but it was well worth the work!
The boys really enjoyed scaling these rocks to get to the Scottish flag.
This clam bed contained what must have contained millions of shells! I have no idea how deep the shells were piled, but the sound of walking on them was memorable.

This is the path into Pittenweem. When we came up from the sea coast, we were so surprised that this farmer's field came right up to the edge of the coast.
Pittenweem is mostly a fishing village as shown here by these piles of lobster traps.
This church is unusual combination of church and old tollbooth which dates from the 1580's. It served as both a meeting place for the town council and as a prison. In the 18th century, the Pittenweem witches are said to have been held here before being burned at the stake.
After a wonderful family day, Tommy and I had one of our students stay with the boys and we headed out for an early Valentines dinner at Dolls House. It was quite a big food day, but after hiking along the sea coast, we felt like we had earned it!
