Today a nice retired couple asked to take the boys and I on a little field trip. We didn't know all that we were getting into to when we agreed to go, but that's part of the adventure! The estate that they took us to visit has been in the same family since 1688. The Victorian mansion is surrounded by well manicured as well as "wild" gardens, woodland walking paths that lead to the sea and it backs up to one of Scotland's beautiful golf courses. I understood that we were going to walk through the estate's gardens, but when we completed our tour of that, our friend said, "There are two ways to go down to the sea coast and I suggest we take the path through the woods." Sea coast?? I didn't know that was part of our afternoon! We, of course, agreed to follow this trail and there was certainly a huge reward at the end!
There are 350 varieties of snowdrops at the estate, the small white flowers in the pictures. Our guide told us many interesting things about the flowers along the way.
The estate holds the national register for the various breeds and varieties of snowdrops.

She recently had babies who accompanied her in her pen.
The boys enjoyed feeding them potatoes from the bin. The pigs enjoyed being fed!
